Chapbooks, Et cetera

David Sellers, the proprietor of Pied Oxen Printers, produces chapbooks and broadsides by commission, sometimes with student participation (see BACKGROUND). The printer's objective in these projects is to arrive at a distinctive, if modest, presentation of the verse. He welcomes opportunities to share his experience making books through teaching in institutional settings and Pied Oxen's workshop.

These titles are published by the organizations that commission their production. As such, generally they are not for sale by the Press. However, a limited number of printer's copies may be available for sale.

Rare Book School and Princeton University Library

H. de Roos for the Typefoundry Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, Solemnis, by G. G. Lange for the Foundry Berthold in Berlin, Germany, and Garamond 156, based upon the 16th century designs of Jean Jannon and cast by various unidentified monotype type-casters. The asemic writing was printed from magnesium photoengravings made to the artist’s specifications by Owosso Graphic Arts in Owosso, Michigan. The paper, printed dampened, is vintage J. Whatman, mould-made in 1951 at a mill then located near Maidstone in Kent, England. The edition comprises 40 copies, of which copies 1-25 are for the participants, the Rare Book School and Princeton University Library, and copies 26-40 are the printer’s proofs.
